The tasks a Telephone Operator, Local is expected to perform include:

Operating telephone switchboard to establish telephone connections of subscribers for local calls

Watching calling indications on switchboard

Inserting answering plugs in corresponding jack attending to calling indication

Repeating the numbers called to subscriber for confirmation

Watching switchboard plugs and informing the caller if required number is engaged

Inserting calling plug in required jack if free and putting through calls

Watching indication of finishing calls and drawing out plugs on noticing clearance

Knowledge of operating telephones and switchboards Knowledge of the system and procedure of receiving and transferring calls Expertise in handling, forwarding, booking and connecting calls

Knowledge of calling plugs, calculagraph and telephonemeter Knowledge of the timing for a particular call

Knowledge of on local, P.B.X. and special services Knowledge of trunk information services, giving telephone numbers and rates of various places and calculating charges for calls
