Minimum ?Bachelor of Law (LLB)

Minimum 1?5 years of experience in a relevant field

The tasks a Legal Assistant is expected to perform include:

Assisting Solicitors and Advocates in their work by collecting documents from clients or organizations in which they are employed

Studying details of cases, preparing briefs, supplying relevant decisions or similar cases and laws connected, etc. in support of pleadings

Interviewing clients, discussing case history and collecting documents pertaining to the case, if any

Examining witnesses and discussing the case with a senior (Solicitor or Advocate)

Studying relevant case laws, preparing briefs for pleading as instructed and filing the case in court

Assisting the Advocate in preparing witnesses for evidence and cross examination

Accompanying the Advocate to courts and performing other legal duties as instructed

Visiting spots occurrence or disputes to ascertain additional facts

Skilled in general investigation

Ability to solve problems at hand

Proficient in symptomatic reading

In-depth knowledge of the national and local laws, rights and duties

Skilled in studying the cases and preparing witnesses

Skilled in preparing briefs and drafting other legal documents

Will be updated

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Confident

Disciplined

Persuasive

Attention to detail

Focused and persistent

It is not a desk job

Working hours

Courts usually work for 5/6 days a week and 7/8 hours everyday. This may vary from court to court

In these days of globalization and liberalization, it is likely to get further momentum as more lawyers would be required to handle cases arising out of international trade. Persons holding law degrees or other higher legal qualifications have ample employment opportunities in the private as well as public sector. Therefore, those with a career as a Legal Assistant have a bright future and the opportunities are only going to rise in coming time.
