Minimum B.Sc. in Speech Therapy

Minimum experience of 2 to 7 years in relevant field

The tasks a Speech Therapist and Audiologist is expected to perform include:

Determining the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage and the resultant effects on comprehension and speech

Implementing habilitation and rehabilitation services for patients

Administering and interpreting variety of tests, such as discrimination tests, speech reception, air and bone conduction, etc.

Evaluating test results in relation to behavioural, social, educational and medical information obtained from patients, their families, teachers, speech pathologists and other professionals

Determining communication problems related to hearing disability

Instructing speech handicapped persons in development of desirable speech habits by training of articulation and voice

Providing counselling and guidance to speech and language handicapped persons

Consultingwith thepatient?s family concerning social and psychological problems associated with speech disabilities

Referring patient to physician or surgeon, if medical treatment is determined necessary

Skilled in rehabilitation services, including hearing aid selection and orientation, counselling, auditory training, lip reading, language habilitation and speech conservation

Efficient in providing other treatment/ remedial programmes that are designed to restore or improve communicative efficiency developed during consultation

Skilled in following up with remedial programmes that are developed in close consultation along with speech pathologists and other professionals
