The tasks a Physician, Unani is expected to perform include:

Examining patients to diagnose ailments and prescribing necessary medicines according to unani system of treatment

Enquiring with the patient about nature of ailment, habits, previous history of disease, hereditary factors, etc.

Interrogating the patient about his/her appetite, bowel movement and any other discharges, etc.

Examining the patientspulse, abdomen, chest, liver, spleen, urine, stool and sputum if considered necessary

Diagnosing the disease properly and prescribing medicines according to patient?s temperament

Providing all the necessary instructions regarding use of medicines, diet and other precaution to be taken

Preparing and selling tonics and other medicines such as ?Kushtas(ashes of burnt metal) and ?Maul Laul Lahm(extracts from birds meat, fruits, etc.)

Proficient in observing, assessing and recording symptoms, reactions and progress of the patients

Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids

Skilled in prescribing dosages along with instructing patients about the correct usage

Skilled in managing direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnosis and treatment

Knowledge of preparing tonics and other medicines like ?Kushtasand ?Maul Laul Lahm?

Knowledge of Ministry of Health (Mo

H) policies and general system of health management

Skilled in interpreting tests and accordingly counselling patients on rehabilitative, preventative and dietary care

Skilled in using medical equipment and instruments
