The tasks a Sales Manager (Media Org)is expected to perform include:

Leading sales activity within the designated area of responsibility

Creating and monitoring the sales budget within the area of responsibility

Achieving the target set by Sales Director

Acquiring and maintaining key clients

Developing/overseeing the development of proposals and closing sales orders

Selling adinventorylike10secondadspots,banners,classifieds,textads,etc.

Ability to develop an area-wise sales vision and plan

Proficient in applying different methods to motivate people and empower them with the skills and knowledge to achieve sales target

Well-versed with training methodologies such as case studies, role plays, simulations, etc.

Knowledge of tools and techniques to analyse data, understand trends and improve sales performance

Well-versed with fundamentals of marketing and advertising

Knowledge of market and industry in which the client operates

Proficient in reading and analysing audience and market information and derive trends that can be used to pitch to potential client

Knowledge of applicable legal and regulatory guidelines

Proficient in identifying sales opportunities while managing existing client relationships

Knowledge of life-time client value measurement methods

Proficient in positioning the company?s offering effectively to a potential client

Knowledge of drafting a sales agreement and other standard contracts

Overview of Film and Television Sector in India

The Media and Entertainment industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. The television segment in India accounts for over 40% of the revenues. It also contributes to above 35% of the revenues to the Indian advertising industry. The film industry, on the other hand, has seen a tremendous growth and has become a brand name in the recent years. This has helped it to enter the international market.

The current employment across Media & Entertainment sector is estimated to be over 1 million persons (in terms of direct employment only). The Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) on Entertainment is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13% to 14% between 2008 and 2022.

About 100 to 120 persons are required to produce a movie. Keeping in mind the current employment, and the expected growth in different segments in the industry, we project that the total employment in the Media and Entertainment industry would increase from about 1 to 1.1 million persons in 2008 to about 4 to 4.1 million persons in 2022, an incremental human resource requirement of about 3 million persons. All these factors put together is only going to increase the job opportunities for a Sales Manager across towns and cities in India.
