Power is the most essential component of the economic growth and prosperity of any economy, with most of the other industries dependant on power supply as a resource. The power sector is divided into three segments, generation, transmission and distribution. India has an extremely diversified profile, with power generation ranging from conventional sources like natural gas, coal, water and nuclear power to renewable sources like solar and wind energy, bio waste etc.
India is one of the world’s largest energy consumer as well as energy generator, though even with surplus energy generation, the country lacks an appropriate structure for adequate supply. The government is looking to remedy this by the Power For All scheme which will ensure adequate supply of power to all parts of the country. The total energy requirement for the country is estimated to reach 950,000 MW by the year 2030.
The Power sector has three main segments, Generation, Transmission and Distribution.
