Water Supply & Waste Management

Water is the basic need of every human. Apart from this, it is the main raw material for a plethora of industries across agriculture, manufacturing etc. Despite having a substantial amount of water resources in the country, clean drinking water has always been a problem in the country. The main reason is the unequal distribution of water across the nation. Proper management of water resources has hence taken centre stage in the country. This has lead to immense potential for growth and manpower in this sector.
This sector is divided into a number of segments, namely Sewerage, Water Collection, Treatment & Supply, and Waste Treatment and Disposal.
Unorganized sewerage system in India has lead to a plethora of medical problems, especially in rural areas. The government has undertaken many projects to make people aware of the ill-effects of open sewerage, but there’s still a long way to go yet. India is now taking up a wide range of environment-friendly technological solutions for sewerage recycling and reuse. Substantial changes are expected over the next few years aiming at improving the quality of municipal sewage treatment services in the country. The government has targeted this sub-sector in a big way by constructing proper sewerage facilities everywhere. All these factors have resulted in a huge demand for a larger workforce.
Water collection, Treatment & Supply sector is doing well in the country right now. This is evident from the fact that the number of Indians with access to improved water supply has increased. India is now seeing a lot of Foreign Direct Investment and technology support for bridging the gap between demand for clean water and supply to the areas that still do not have access to this.
The Treatment & Disposal sub-sector includes treatments of both sewage and effluents. This segment holds great importance as untreated wastewater results in increased pollution and depletion of clean water resources.
