The tasks a Caddie is expected to perform include:

Carrying bags of golf equipment around golf course, delivering clubs to players as requested

Keeping different types of golf clubs in leather bag

Placing golf ball over the small mound (on which golf-ball is placed for first stroke by player)

Advising players, on request, in selection of proper club for particular stroke and/or on peculiarities of course

Following golf-ball after hit along with player and locating it

Supplying required type of golf club for next stroke

Collecting golf clubs from player at close of play

Cleaning golf clubs and keeping the kit in good condition

Informing player about type, condition and location of hole

Assisting golf professional marker in up-keep of golf course

Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the game of golf

Basic knowledge of different types of golf courses

Skilled in replacing the divot

Skilled in using rake and making the surface smooth

Proficiency in measurement techniques

Working hours

Golf clubs usually work for 6/7 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from club to club

India's community of golfers and golf enthusiasts is a fairly young one and the sport has only started to take course more prominently over the past two decades or so. However, even with its young entry into the domestic leisure and sports scene, golf has found a large and varied following from business men and women looking to make stronger networks, to leisure players and young school students who are taking to the sport with ambitions of making it to the PGA Tour. With increasing interest in golf and youngsters opting for sports as a career option, the job of a Caddie seems to have a great future. There are ample opportunities, starting from domestic tournaments to state level and national level tournaments and going on to international level. A Caddie?s career in India is a promising one as professional sports and sports bodies/clubs are on a rise.
