The tasks a Food & Beverage Service Steward is expected to perform include:Serving food and beverages to guests of the hotel, restaurant or banquet function

Greeting and seating the guests

Providing the guests with requisite tableware, food and beverage items

Clearing used dishes from the table

Settling the customer?s accounts as per procedures

Knowledge of the menu, food and beverage served

Well-versed with storage, service and upkeep procedure for cutlery, condiments and other accessories

Proficient in maintaining personal hygiene at the service area

Adept with the organization?s service style for the food & beverage outlet Knowledge of the details of items available on the menu especially the specials for the day

Adept with different kinds of cutlery, plates and tableware and ways to set them on the table/counter

Proficient in preparation and serving techniques for a basic range of drinks including tea and coffee

Adept with typical food and beverage service styles and types of menu used in different hospitality contexts including buffet, tray, plate and silver service

Overview of Tourism & Hospitality Sector in India

The Travel & Tourism industry in India accounted for approximately 6% of GDP and 30.5 million jobs (including direct and indirect). The size of the Tourism industry is expected to grow from 4,413 billion currently to about 21,011 billion by 2022, growing at a CAGR of 13%.

The rapidly increasing purchasing power of the middle class, better road connectivity and evolving lifestyle have contributed to the growth of Travel & Tourism in India. Currently Travel & Tourism, being employment intensive, provides employment to approximately 31 million (both direct & indirect) people throughout the country and is one of the largest employers in the country. This number is expected to rise to over 40 million by 2019 and over 43 million by 2022.

The employment in the hotel category (excluding motels along the highway) is forecasted to increase to over 2.9 million by 2018 and 4 million in 2022. The incremental human resource requirement in the restaurant category is estimated to be around 0.72 million. In this, about 50% of the incremental requirement (0.34 million) would be in the Conventional Restaurants category. All these factors are only going to increase the job opportunities for Food & Beverage Service Steward across towns and cities in India.
