The tasks a Detective is expected to perform include:

Carrying out investigations to prevent and solve criminal cases

Investigating known or suspected criminals or facts of particular case to detect planned criminal activity or clues

Recording information and reporting it to concerned officer

Reporting any occurrence or information regarding planned or committed crime that comes to his attention

Investigating circumstances of crime and questioning witnesses when assigned to specific case

Examining scene of crime to obtain clues and gather evidence

Interrogating suspected persons to establish guilt or innocence

Reporting progress of investigation

Arresting or assisting in arrest of criminals or suspects

Preparing assigned cases for court, according to formalised procedure

Investigating and finding out missing persons or articles for restoration to legal owner

Skilled in investigating a criminal case

Ability to track usual suspects and their location

Basic knowledge of forensic study that maybe required in solving a case

Skilled in report writing and constantly reporting the progress to the senior officials

Skilled in investigating and questioning techniques

Basic legal knowledge and taking the cases to the court
