The tasks an Inspector, Police is expected to perform include:

Maintaining law and order

Protecting the property and persons from hazards and unlawful acts

Apprehending violation of the law

Inspecting the police stations under his charge

Studying the reports and other records and informing higher authorities about inadequacies such as delays or improper actions

Investigating all the serious crimes such as dacoit, murder, conspiracy, etc.

Maintaining the crimes register and acting to minimize crimes by rounding up bad character or keeping watch over them

Keeping Superintendent of Police informed about important occurrences within his jurisdiction by regular rendition of reports

Conducting the cases against accused in court

Specialising in security arrangements, traffic control, intelligence, enforcement and anticorruption work

Skilled in handling armed and ordinary reserves along with magazine and other stores

Ability to provide training to recruits

Knowledge of drills and proper use of arms

Proficient in handling serious crimes such as dacoit, murder, conspiracy, etc.

Ability to timely inform higher authorities about inadequacies such as delays or improper actions

Proficient in inspecting and handling the police stations under his charge
