The tasks a Probation Officer is expected to perform include:
Studying and investigating problems of ex-convicts
Suggesting and undertaking suitable measures towards their rehabilitation as useful citizens
Studying background and environments of offenders to ascertain causes of delinquency and maladjustment
Reporting to court to determine the probation period and corrective measures to be taken
Undertaking aftercare of ex-inmates of certified and juvenile schools
Encouraging discharged prisoners to join aftercare homes and service centres to learn craft or profession
Maintaining information of convict to ensure that they do not turn habitual offenders
Ability to understand the problems faced by ex-convicts
Skilled in preparing a new life for ex-convicts and making sure that there?s no discrimination against them
Knowledge of the laws governing the social rehabilitation of ex-convicts
