The tasks a Penologist is expected to perform include:

Investigating and studying the punishment of various crimes

Ensuring the discipline and proper management of penal institutions

Working on the rehabilitation of criminal offenders

Studying the theories and objectives of punishment and criminality as suggested by a Criminologist

Assigning different punishments for various crimes according to their nature and intensity of crime

Judging the appropriate punishments that are associated with various crimes

Indulging in individualized punishment with corrective treatment of criminals through proper prison management

Maintaining juvenile institutions and dealing with settlement for habitual offenders

Enforcing punishment with reformative and rehabilitative ideals

Skilled in data collection

In-depth knowledge of psychology, sociology and other parameters that make a society

Proficient in understanding the causes of criminal behaviour

Skilled at coming up with various ways in which criminals can be rehabilitated

Skilled in observing inmates inside correctional facilities

Proficient in analyzing inmate behaviour and presenting a report on the same

Skilled in preparing and presenting recommendations for improving individual facilities and the prison system
