Rail Transportation Workers work for passenger railroads which transport freight or people railroads that transport goods. They are typically yardmasters, switch operators, conductors,or locomotive engineers. Their duties include driving diesel-electric, electric, gas-turbine-electric or steam locomotives to transport freight or passengers, switching or other locomotives within industrial plants, railroad yards, quarry etc, operating locomotive instruments, or railroad track switches, and elevated suburban, or subway trains with no seperate electric-powered streetcar, or locomotive, and coordinating activities of switch-engine crew within industrial plant, railroad yard, or similar locations. May also handle fares and watch for obstacles, or dragging equipment on rights-of-way.
