Given the nature of occupations, some amount of physical strength and empathy is required for carrying out the job functions in this pathway. Occupations Therapy Assistants and Aides provide rehabilitation services to patients with any physical, mental, or emotional disabilities, injuries and setbacks, under the supervision of an occupational therapist. They focus on skills required for daily living. This may involve helping people compensate for lost motor skills and increasing self reliance of people with learning disabilities etc. Occupational therapy assistants generally require formal training and assist patients with exercises and activities as per the treatment plan. They are also required to monitor and document progress for the therapist, and provide encouragement to the client etc. Occupational therapy aides are generally involved in preparing patients, treatment rooms and equipment for procedures and performing more clerical tasks. Physical Therapy Assistants and Aides help patients recover from injuries and illnesses relieve pain and regain movement under the supervision of physical therapists. Physical therapy assistants require formal training and certification and provide physical care to the clients. Physical therapy aides are generally involved in non medical tasks such as preparing patients and treatment areas or transporting patients to specific for procedures etc.
