Modern languages include any language in use in the world today. With increasing globalization and organizations spreading across borders, the knowledge of an additional language is becoming a much required skill, leading not only to ease of business transactions, but also international relations. Some courses may be focused on the professional aspects such as translation, business processes etc.
A number of undergraduate programs in modern languages are four years long, allowing for one year spent in the native country of the language. They can be undertaken as single language honors degree or a joint honors degree, often with another humanities subject. Masters degree includes a Master of Arts, and research based programs include MPhil and Phd in specific areas of specialization.
