The interdisciplinary field of materials science is the design and discovery of new materials, particularly solids. A major branch of material science is metallurgy, which studies metals and alloys and includes technologies like extraction, casting, forging etc.
Depending on the country, undergraduate courses in this field are mostly three or four years long, with a further two years for post graduation.
