Certified training for Manual Blocker (programme aligned to G&J/Q 4606 released by the Gem & Jewellery Skills Council of India)

A minimum of 6 monthswork experience/on-the-job training

The tasks a Manual Blocker is expected to perform include:

Creating the first set of bottom and top facets of a diamond

Dexterity of the hands

Good eyesight

Sharp mind

Physical strength

Ability to work with high noise generating machinery

Ability to clearly understand concepts such as geometry of diamonds, internal diamond structures (graining, etc.), technology being used, maintenance aspects of tools and machines, etc.

Working hours

Most companies usually work for 6 days a week and 8 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company

The market size of the industry is expected to rise by leaps and bounds by 2020 considering India is the global leader in the diamond processing industry. Diamonds cut and polished in India are of world-class quality. 11 out of 12 diamonds set in jewellery globally are cut and polished in India. This means there will be an increase in the demand for Manual Blocker in the coming years.
