The tasks a Melter and Refiner is expected to perform include:

Recovering pure gold from jewellery pieces, gold scrap and dust by using a melting furnace and chemical processes

Understanding of metallurgy and the properties of gold and alloys

Knowledge of gold karatages and the proportion of mixing other metals

Knowledge of the level of acid resistance of different metals
