Minimum Preferably 12th standard pass

Certified training for Performance Tester - TV (programme aligned to ELE/Q3607 released by Electronics Sector Skills Council of India)

Minimum 1-2 years of experience as assistant for 12th passed

The tasks a Performance Tester - TV is expected to perform include:Checking audio-visual performance aspects of TV with respect to picture and sound quality as per guaranteed specifications

Running simulated tests to check performance parameters of the TV set as per company recommended or international standards

Well-versed with general principles of wiring and assembly

Knowledge of purpose and function of different types of TV-set and their modules Proficient with types of simulation, tests and measurements for verifying performance Well-versed with specifications of various TV models of the company Adept with basic mathematics and physics Proficient in analysing and evaluating results of the test procedure carried out

Knowledge of calibration of test and measuring instruments Well-versed with construction of simulation test set up Knowledge of basic circuitry of different modules of the TV set, transmitter, receiver, picture tube, LCD and LED display, antenna, audio-video modules Proficient with basic principles of broadcasting, modulation and demodulation, encoding and decoding, encryption, picture formats, e.g., MPEG, international satellite up-linking and down-linking codes, cable networks, associated audio-video equipment, set top box and direct to home service Knowledge of types of compressors such as diode, transformer, LED, transistor, capacitor, resistor, inductor, thermistor, triode, etc. Well-versed with ohms law, difference between Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC), series and parallel connections Proficient with reading value of components, colour coding, polarity, tolerance

Well-versed with frequently occurring failures and their causes

Knowledge of International Organisation for Standardization) ISO standards for quality

Adept with specific safety precautions for working on an electronic assembly unit

Future Trends for Consumer Electronics in India

The consumption of electronic in India is expected to reach $400 billion by 2020. The steady increase in the Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) on Home Appliances will drive the consumption and production of Electronics and IT Hardware in India, with major contributors being Computers, Consumer Electronics, and Telecom. It is expected that Indian Electronics and IT hardware sector will grow at a CAGRof about 17% till 2022.

Consumer electronics is the largest segment in Indian electronic industry and it accounts for 28% of the total electronic hardware production. The market of consumer electronics is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10 to 12 percent in future. Consumer electronics comprises of products like television, audio and video system, set top boxes, washing machines, air conditioners, etc. Television segment is the largest contributor to the growth of consumer electronics segment. While flat TV accounts for 55% of the domestic TV production, Hi-end products like LCD TV, Plasma TV, etc. are gaining popularity in India.

The total TV market stands at15-million-units in FY 2008 and is expected to grow in future. With the growth in the TV market, demand for Performance Tester- TV is bound to increase. Again this profession is not limited to TV and there is a possibility of diversifying to other electronic equipment like DVD?s, Music players etc.

The human resource directly employed in the industry is estimated to increasing from the current level of 0.9 million to over 4 million by 2022. This would translate to an incremental human resource requirement of about 3 million to 3.2 million in the entire industry and about 0.6 to 0.7 million in servicing support role/Performance Tester - TV by 2022.
