The tasks a Safety Testing Technician is expected to perform include:Assuring that the appliance meets prescribed safety standards
Knowledge of safety parameters as per Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) or other standards
Testing safety parameters of the assembled United Power System (UPS), Power Line Communication (PLC), inverter, energy meter, oscilloscope, control panel and automation units as per BIS or other standards
Well-versed with general principles of wiring and assembly
Knowledge of various tests used to verify the safety of the unit Proficient in analyzing and evaluating results of the test procedure carried out
Knowledge of hazards caused by improper testing Adept with choice of test measurement equipment, their calibration and set up Knowledge of basic circuit and functioning of different modules of the unit Proficient with earth resistance test, earth continuity test, insulation resistance test as per the work instruction, current, voltage and environment safety tests Well-versed with ohms law, difference between Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC), series and parallel connections Knowledge of components such as diode, transformer, LED, transistor, capacitor, resistor, inductor, thermostat, etc.Knowledge of reading values of components, colour coding, polarity, tolerance Well-versed with frequently occurring safety failures and their causes Knowledge of international and Indian safety standards for electronics equipment

The human resource directly employed in the industry is estimated to increasing from the current level of 0.9 million to over 4 million by 2022. This would translate to an incremental human resource requirement of about 3 million to 3.2 million in the entire industry and about 0.6 to 0.7 million in servicing support roles such as Safety Testing Technicians by 2022.
