The tasks a Pickler (Can & Preservation) is expected to perform include:

Preparing pickles of food products by preserving them in flavouring solutions

Mixing ingredients such as salt, vinegar or sugar in barrels, vats or tanks according to a formula

Working on the formula involving pickling or flavouring brine

Dumping the product such as vegetables, fruit, fish, fish eggs or meat into the solution to soak for the specified time

Packing the product in layers in the barrels and ensuring that each layer is covered in the preservative compound

Removing the contents from containers by hand or with a dip net

Knowledge of the saturation process of all the food products

Skilled in handling the rolling barrels and flavouring brines

Knowledge of adequately packing the preserved items

Knowledge of the entire process of pickling the different food items
