The tasks a Television Repair Technician is expected to perform include:

Identifying and rectifying the section in the TV that is not functioning

Replacing the dysfunctional TV part with new one

Providing after-sales assistance to ensure appropriate functioning of TV sets

Testing and rectifying the faults in TV sets during manufacturing process

Knowledge of different sections of TV and their functioning

Proficient with TV circuit and various electronic components such as transformer, resistor, etc.Well-versed with the price of PCBs and different electronic components Proficient in identifying and correcting faults

Well?versed with latest technological advancements in TV industry

Knowledge of safety and precautions to prevent short circuits

Proficient with various sections of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) like power section, horizontal and vertical section, etc.Knowledge of power supply, high voltage generation section and voltage required for potential transformer

Future Trends for Consumer Electronics in India

Consumer electronics is the largest segment in Indian electronic industry and it accounts for 28% of the total electronic hardware production. The market of consumer electronics is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10 to 12 percent in future. Television segment is the largest contributor to the growth of consumer electronics segment. While flat TV accounts for 55% of the domestics TV production, Hi-end products like LCD TV, Plasma TV, etc. are gaining popularity in India.

The total TV market stands at15-million-unit in FY 2008 and is expected to grow in future. With the growth in TV market, demand for TV repair technician is bound to increase. Again this profession is not limited to TV and there is a possibility of diversifying to other electronic equipment like DVD?s, music players, etc.

The human resource directly employed in the industry is estimated to increase from the current level of 0.9 million to over 4 million by 2022. This would translate to an incremental human resource requirement of about 3 million to 3.2 million in the entire industry and about 0.6 to 0.7 million in servicing support role/Television Repair Technician by 2022
