Future Trends for Solar Power in India

India is facing an acute energy scarcity which is hampering its industrial growth and economic progress. The effective way to tackle this energy crisis is through judicious utilisation of abundant renewable energy resources, such as Biomass Energy, Solar Energy, Wind Energy and Geothermal Energy.

Solar Power, a clean renewable resource with zero emission has got tremendous potential in India, which can be harnessed using a variety of devices. With recent developments, solar energy systems are easily available for industrial and domestic use with the added advantage of minimum maintenance. Again because of geographical location India?s average annual temperature ranges from 25?C to ?27.5 ?C which is conducive for generating solar power.

Solar power has so far played an almost non-existent role in the Indian energy mix. However Indian government has begun to acknowledge the importance of solar energy to the country?s economic growth. Prime Minister Mr. Modi has increased India?s target for generating renewable energy in a bid to lower coal use, reduce carbon dioxide emissions and bring electricity to the poor. The government has set a target to generate 100 gigawatts of solar capacity by 2022 from current 3 gigawatts, this could make India one of the largest solar power markets in the world.

Many state governments have also started planning to link the installation of solar panels to building plan approvals and provide tax rebates on installation of solar panels. With the growing government initiative and increasing cost effectiveness of solar electricity, many industries, companies and households are moving towards solar energy. This will increase the demand of solar PV panels and solar PV panel?s Maintenance Technicians in India. The human resource that will be directly employed in the industry is estimated to increasing by 48 lakhs by 2022.
