The tasks a Button-Hole Maker, Machine is expected to perform include:

Operating button-hole making machine which cuts holes and stitches around holes automatically

Mounting spool of thread and wounding bobbin on machine

Drawing thread through guides and eye of needle

Adjusting gauge according to size of hole required

Pressing pedal to raise pressure-foot

Inserting part of garment where button-holes are to be made and adjusting it

Releasing pedal to lower pressure-foot

Pressing another pedal to start machine which cuts hole and stitches around hole

Cleaning and oiling the machine

Knowledge about basic sewing techniques, including hand sewing and the manipulation of fabric through a sewing machine

Well-versed with the use, properties and care of different fabrics and materials regularly used in making costumes

Understanding about maintaining costumes and fabrics

Ability to interpret production documentation, costume labels and costume care instructions

Knowledge about different types of stitches in buttons and types of buttons
