The tasks a Mat Weaver, Bamboo is expected to perform include:

Making mats of seasoned and coloured bamboo strips according to pattern or design

Soaking pre-cut bamboo stakes in water to soften and bleach them

Removing stakes from bath when soft, cutting and removing splints and splitting them into strips of desired size and thickness

Dressing bamboo strips to remove sharpness

Colouring strips according to desired pattern and weaving them into mats

Cutting off and concealing or weaving together loose ends to finish edges

Weaving thicker strips and ornamental borders on edge or end of mat

Proficient in making mats of bamboo strips according to pattern or design

Knowledge of weaving rugs and mats

Well-versed with dressing and colouring bamboo strips

Proficient in watching out for flaws in produced mats

Ability to create designs

Knowledge of weaving window and door screens

Knowledge of making fans, fruit baskets, etc.

Will be updated

Working hours
Handicraft and carpet units usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours every day. This may vary from unit to unit

Shift system maybe available

Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible
