Artificial Limbmaker

Minimum - Graduate degree

Preferably minimum 1-5 years of experience

The tasks an Orthopaedic Appliance and Limbs Technician is expected to perform include:

Making and repairing artificial limbs, braces, and other orthopaedic appliances according to prescription

Making cast of limb or deformity and drawing patterns from measurements of body parts to be fitted

Cutting and fashioning the devices from materials, such as metal, plastic and leather, using welding equipment, forge, riveting machine, drill and hand tools

Proficiency in shaping leather parts over lasts and riveting parts to braces

Knowledge of padding braces with felt and sponge rubber

Well-versed with polishing completed devices, using buffing wheel

Knowledge of adjusting nuts and screws at joints to insure free movement

Adept at repairing worn-out or damaged appliance

Knowledge of harnessing devices to limbs or stumps, using knowledge of functional anatomy

Knowledge of instructing patient in use of device

Good hand-eye co-ordination

Detail-oriented

Good interpersonal skills

Excellent communication skills

Manual dexterity

It is a desk job

Need not handle a team

Local travelling is not a part of this job role

Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

Work from home option is not available

Working hours
Healthcare centres usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from centre to centre

Self-employment is an option. In that case, working hours and days are flexible
