The tasks a Calibrator, Other is expected to perform include:

Calibrating metal, wood and synthetic material seals for linear and angular measurements using pantograph, dividing or other sensitive machines according to specifications 

Setting sized object accurately on machine using precision instruments and holding devices like dial indicator, combination set, clamps, mandrill, etc. 

Fitting template or necessary gadgets and cutter in machine 

Setting machine in relation to object according to divisions required and marking extreme positions 

Operating machine as per template or calculation and machine markings to divide object into specified number of divisions by short and long cuts, as required 

Checking object with set standard to ensure accuracy 

Competent in calibration procedures and mathematical calibration

Knowledgeable about updated standards for calibrations

Proficient in handling standard mensuration instruments

Well versed in repairing, maintaining and troubleshooting calibration instruments

Proficiency in commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures for calibration

Ability to copy from sample or standard scale

Alert and attentive

Detail oriented

Hand-eye dexterity

Manual dexterity

Mathematical and scientific aptitude

Strong problem solving and communication skills

It requires one to be on their feet

Need not handle a team

Local travelling is not a part of this job

Working hours
Factories usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from factory to factory

The job is considered mildly hazardous or dangerous under The Factories Act, 1948 (section 87) 

Occupational hazards may include general tiredness and fatigue, minor cuts, strain to eyes, general body aches due to long standing hours, etc.

Health risks include possible injuries due to handling glass instruments, fine measuring instruments, calibration instruments and tools, etc.

For freshers - INR 10,000 to INR 12,000 per month

For candidates with 2-4 years of experience or more - INR 13,000 to INR 15,500 per month

Ceramic Industry

The ceramic industry in India came into existence about a century ago and has matured over time to form an industrial base. From traditional pottery making, the industry has evolved to find its place in the market for sophisticated insulators, electronic and electrical items. Over the years, the industry has been modernising through new innovations in product profile, quality and design to emerge as a modern, world-class industry, ready to take on global competition.

The Indian Ceramic Industry ranks at 8th position in the world and produces around 2.5% of global output. The industry provides employment to 550,000 people, of whom 50,000 are directly employed. Gujarat accounts for around 70 % of total ceramic production.

Glass Industry

Fuelled by growth in sectors like real estate, infrastructure, retail, automotive and food and beverages, the country's glass industry will acquire a market size worth 340 billion by 2015 from 225 billion at present. The organised glass industry as in 2013, employs 30 lakh people directly and provides indirect employment to 5 lakh people whereas the unorganised sector employs around 5-6 lakh people. About 75 per cent of the total glass industry is concentrated in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The highest employment in the glass industry is in Gujarat followed by Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
