Dialogue/Sound Effect Editor, Foley Effects Editor, Supervising Sound Editor

Minimum Preferably 10th standard pass with background in physical sciences

Certified training for Sound Editor (programme aligned to MES/Q3404 released by Media & Entertainment Skills Council)

Minimum 3 Years of work experience, with experience in post-production sound editing

The tasks a Sound Editor is expected to perform include:Preparing, organizing and editing sound sequences to meet the quality standards and requirements of production

Well-versed with Industry standard analog and digital sound editing conventions, processes and techniques

Proficient with principles of acoustics, psychoacoustics and aural discrimination to critically analyze sound elements/sequences Adept with principles of sonic storytelling to focus attention, intensify action and set the pace/mood

Knowledge of sound recording, editing and mixing equipment Proficient in identifying sound defects (e.g. muffled dialogue) and troubleshooting the identified issues Well-versed in digitizing /changing/taking back-up of different sound materials w.r.t. file formats, compression and technical standards Proficient in synchronizingpictureandsoundusingtimecodes,frameratesandsamplerates

Adept in editing a range of audio sequences/segments to achieve the technical/creative requirements of the production Knowledge of using various sound equipment/software like Avid, Adobe Audition, Magix Music Maker, Goldwave, etc.Adept with all the applicable copyright norms and intellectual property rights

Training in sound mixing, editing, production and sound editing software, formal film education (optional)

Knowledge of how to operate various sound equipment and software

Ability to delegate/supervise several Sound Editing Assistants or Sound Specialists

Well-versed with acoustics, psychoacoustics and aural discrimination principles

Ability to select sound sources to meet production requirement

Well-versed in applying various editing techniques and treatments to create quality end-products that meet production requirements

This has helped it to enter the international market.The current employment across Media & Entertainment sector is estimated to be over 1 million persons (in terms of direct employment only). The Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) on Entertainment is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13% to 14% between 2008 and 2022.Thus with the growing private spending and demand of entertainment and recreation activities in India the demand for professionals working in production of films, shows etc is bound to increase. It is expected that the total employment in the Media and Entertainment industry would increase from about 1 to 1.1 million persons in 2008 to about 4 to 4.1 million persons in 2022, an incremental human resource requirement of about 3 million persons in various profession like Sound Assistant, Sound Editor, etc.
