The tasks a Radio Operator, Aircraft is expected to perform include:

Operating and adjusting radio equipment on board an aircraft in flight to maintain contact with ground station

Exchanging messages to inform the pilot about weather conditions, landing instructions etc.

Inspecting equipment including the radar before undertaking flights

Operating the radio to send and receive messages and maintain contact with ground stations

Receiving weather information and other messages in prescribed codes from Control Tower Operator and transmitting them to Pilots during flights

Operating radio navigational equipment and frequently tuning to detect or listen to international distress signals

Maintaining a log of all messages and instructions received and despatched

Operating a direction finding equipment and reporting readings to the pilot

Performing radio repairing task in case of emergency

Thorough knowledge of operating radio equipment on board aircrafts

Knowledge of receiving and transmitting code messages by radio telephone or radio-telegraph system

Understanding and knowledge of frequencies and wavelengths

Knowledge of weather reporting

Skilled in maintaining wireless equipment, recording of messages received or sent and carrying out minor repairs and replacements of parts

Knowledge of repairing a radio during emergency Knowledge of operating direction finding equipment Understanding of report readings

Good communication skills

Self-motivated

It is an in-flight desk job

The role does not involve team handling

Travelling is required on the job

Part-time work and contractual jobs are not available

Work from home option is not available

Working hours

Working is 5/6 days a week and minimum of 8/9 hours every day. However this depends on duration of the flight

The job involves working in shifts

The role includes working on weekends and holidays

This job is not considered hazardous or dangerous as per The Factories Act, 1948 (section 87)

A Radio Operator, Aircraft is paid in the range of INR 12,000 to INR 20,000 per month(These figures are indicative and subject to change)
