The tasks an Obstetrician is expected to perform include:

Diagnosing and conducting treatment of diseases and disorder of human female reproduction system during pre-natal, natal and post-natal periods

Conducting examination of pelvic organs and girdle for integrity and adequacy

Obtaining blood tests for haemoglobin and blood cell contact, blood pressure and clinical tests for urine

Evaluating course of pregnancy to control onward pregnancy manifestation

Supervising arrangements for proper delivery of child and arranging for blood transfusion, if necessary

Providing external manipulation and uterine massage along with administration of drugs during labour

Performing operation or using forceps for delivery of the child

Prescribing and inducing therapeutic abortion in case of chronic diseases

In-depth knowledge of female reproductive system

Ability to perform and interpret specialized tests and procedures

Competent in doing research in related field

Proficient in various procedures involved in C-section surgery

Knowledge of post-natal precautions and treatment

Proficient in handling surgical instruments

Knowledge of medical practices

Keepingup-to-date with any advances in the diagnosis and treatment of patients

In addition, one can search for placements in corporate hospitals. Joining corporate hospitals can be pretty profitable since these provide good salary packages.
