Sound Supervisor, Creative Sound Director

Minimum Preferably 12th standard pass with background in physical sciences

Certified training for Sound Designer (programme aligned to MES/Q3401 released by Media & Entertainment Skills Council)

Minimum 4 Years of work experience, with experience as an apprentice in a mixing studio

The tasks a Sound Designer is expected to perform include:Designing the sound concept for the production

Select the studios/equipment for recordings

Well-versed with various styles/forms of music and sounds prevalent in the industry and their characteristics Knowledge of language and principles of sound, and how they affect tone Well-versed with acoustics and psychoacoustics principles

Proficient in creative thinking and develop a range of sound concepts Adept with parameters for evaluating sound concepts Proficient in balancing fx, music and soundtracks Knowledge of basic music sequencing Well-versed in breaking-down the sound concept into specific components as per the requirement

Adept with foley-recording, i.e. the use of everyday sound effects in post production Proficient in Sound editing/mixing techniques and software, w.r.t. basic film grammar and compatibility with the production Adept with all applicable copyright and intellectual property norms

Training in sound recording & engineering, additional technical knowledge of film making preferable

Ability to think creatively and develop a range of sound concepts

Good understanding of the various music forms and styles prevalent in the industry

Knowledge of language and principles of sound, acoustics and psychoacoustics

Ability to interpret sound requirements and select the equipment/ studios required for production

It is a desk job

Working hours are 10/11 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week. This may vary company to company

This has helped it to enter the international market.The current employment across Media & Entertainment sector is estimated to be over 1 million persons (in terms of direct employment only). The Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) on Entertainment is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13% to 14% between 2008 and 2022.Thus with the growing private spending and demand of entertainment and recreation activities in India the demand for professionals working in production of films, shows etc is bound to increase. It is expected that the total employment in the Media and Entertainment industry would increase from about 1 to 1.1 million persons in 2008 to about 4 to 4.1 million persons in 2022, an incremental human resource requirement of about 3 million persons in various profession like Sound Assistant, Sound Designer, etc.
