Experience of 2?7 years in the food industry

The tasks a Taster (Food) is expected to perform include:

Tasting samples of food or beverages to determine the palatability of the product or to prepare blending formulas

Cooking or brewing small lots of beverages or other food products

Tasting the products to determine their grade, approximate market value or acceptability to consumer tastes

Writing the blending formulas for the guidance of workers who prepare the food products in commercial quantities

Purchasing the food products to determine their correct grading

Ability to recognize different foods by their taste, smell and sight

Skilled at rating the intensity of a particular ingredient in a food product

Knowledge of the specified appearance, texture and flavour of different types of food

In-depth knowledge of taxonomy used to define the various dimensions and attributes of the food items

Skilled in written and verbal communication skills

Efficient in trying different food, drinks and beverages to improve the palate

Abreast with the latest developments and inventions in the food industry

The Food Industry in India

The Indian Brand Equity Foundation in their report on the food industry of India have referred to this industry as the highest profit incurring sector considering the scope it has to offer for value addition. In particular the food processing industry in India has been recognized as a high-priority area. This is because the food processing industry is one of the largest industries in India and is ranked fifth in terms of production, consumption, export and expected growth.

The latest figures have revealed that the total food production in India is likely to double in the next 10 years as the country?s domestic food market is estimated to reach US$ 258 billion by 2015.

Considering all the world data the Indian food and grocery market is the world?s sixth largest with its retail contributing 70 per cent of the sales. It is projected to grow at the rate of 104 per cent, touching US$ 482 billion by 2020. This indicates a vast scope for both investors and exporters.

Given all these figures it is safe to say that the demand for a Taster (Food) is there in the present and will surely increase in the coming years.
