The tasks a Shactor is expected to perform include:

Working in slaughtering, meat packing or wholesale establishments performing precision functions involving the preparation of meat

Slaughtering tasks, cutting standard or premium cuts of meat for marketing, making sausage or wrapping meats

Trimming the head meat and otherwise severing or removing parts of animalsheads or skulls

Wrapping the dressed carcasses and/or meat cuts

Trimming, cleaning and/or curing the animal hides

Removing the bone and cutting the meat into standard cuts to prepare the meat for marketing

Grinding the meat into sausage

Slaughtering the animals in accordance with religious law and determining that the carcasses meet specified religious standards when slaughtering is performed for religious purposes

Slitting open, eviscerating and trimming the carcasses of slaughtered animals

Cutting, trimming, skinning, sorting and washing the viscera of slaughtered animals to separate the edible portions from the offal

Washing and/or shaving the carcasses

Shackling the hind legs of animals to raise them for slaughtering or skinning

Skilled in maintaining hygiene around the workplace

Knowledge of the various religious laws for meat cutting

Knowledge of the cutting style of animal meat, according to the product to be made

Ability to ensure personal safety as well as employee safety
