Overview of Capital Goods and Manufacturing Industry in India

CII has referred to the Capital Goods and Manufacturing industry in India as a strong, resilient and vibrant manufacturing sector.

As per IBEF (Indian Brand Equity Foundation), India is the fourth largest producer of crude steel and the largest producer of soft iron in the world. Presently, the Indian steel industry employs around 500,000 people, while the per capita consumption in 2013 stood at around 57.8 kilograms. These numbers are expected to rise with increased industrialization throughout the country. The Government has set up an inter-ministerial group (IMG) in the Steel Ministry for effective co-ordination and expediting implementation of various investment projects in the steel sector.

The demand for steel in India is expected to rise by 4-5 per cent in 2015 and will touch a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15 per cent after FY17. Also, the recently released Union Budget 201415 has paved the way for the development of the Indian steel sector with proposals for the construction of 100 smart cities.

Considering all these factors, it is safe to state that this sector is bound to grow in the coming years, and so the job profile of a Surface Grinder will witness a lot of growth in the future too.
