Overview of Resin and Other Allied Industries in India

Turpentine (also called spirit of turpentine, oil of turpentine and wood turpentine) is a fluid obtained by the distillation of resin obtained from trees, mainly pine trees. The two primary uses of turpentine in the industry are as a solvent and as a source of materials for organic synthesis. Japan and India are other large importers of turpentine; supplies of resin and turpentine to India supplement indigenous production.

Resin Industry is one of the major industries based on non-wood forest produce. The main oleo-resin producing states in India are Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya and Uttar Pradesh.

Other products like quinine are extensively used for medical purposes. Catechu is used by the food industry. Similarly, other products from non-wood industry of trees have several uses. They are used in several industries and have high demand all over the world. As such, the job prospects for Digester Operator, Wood are growing and will continue to grow in the future.
