The tasks an Inventory Clerk is expected to perform include:

Obtaining schedule and inventory-related information from the supervisor

Gathering relevant information and inspecting work area and equipment

Accessing stored goods and determining discrepancies

Attempting reconciliation of missing goods

Carrying out housekeeping activitiesandreporting tomanagement post inventory counting

Complying with the safety, security and maintenance regulations

Knowledge of stock keeping units

Knowledge of material handling equipment used for moving and storing components

Knowledge of technical specification of goods and possible difficulties in inventory counting

Basic knowledge of legal and compliance procedures

Detailed knowledge of identifying goods based on labels

Understanding the entire process and procedures followed in warehousing

Communication skills

Time management skills

Team player

Organizational skills

Analytical thinking Attention to detail

It is not a desk job

Work from home is not available

The job does not involve team handling

Working hours

Working is generally 5/6 days a week and a minimum of 8 hours a day

Injury while handling sharp and heavy objects, pallet trolleys, etc. may occur while working on inventory of goods and other products

Warehousing Industry in India

The warehousing industry in India is currently valued at INR 745bn (FY 2013) and has been growing at ~15% for the last 3 years. ValueNotes estimates that the industry will grow at a rate of 18% till 2017.

The unorganised sector will continue to dominate, accounting for around 90% of the industry by 2015. Of the organised sector, the industrial segment will constitute a higher share of warehousing demand, viz. engineering, pharmaceutical and electronics goods.

There have been several key indicators to the future trend in the Indian logistics sector. The demand for logistics services has been largely driven by the remarkable growth of the Indian economy. Logistics spend in India is estimated to be around 13 per cent of the GDP, which is comparatively higher than other developed countries.
