Minimum Masters in Psychology or Post Graduate diploma in Guidance and Counselling

The tasks a Counsellor is expected to perform include:

Guiding or counselling individuals with regards to various problems such as educational, vocational, personal, etc.

Guiding and co-ordinating activities of career masters in schools

Collecting educational, occupational, employment, social and related information

Studying relevant details of clients, obtained from them and other sources

Administering tests of intelligence, aptitude, interests, personality traits, etc. for obtaining data about individuals to be guided

Collecting and studying information relating to environment involved in individual's adjustment

Conducting group-guidance activities to serve various purposes of counselling

Performing follow up studies on individuals guided to render further assistance and to evaluate guidance programme

Conducting research and surveys for purposes relevant to counselling

Knowledge and understanding of mental health problems and concerns of students

Knowledge of professional and ethical guidelines

Ability to undertake generic assessment

Ability to use measures to guide students and to monitor outcomes

In-depth knowledge of child psychology

Knowledge of the generic problems that the students/youth are facing in the present environment
