The tasks a Braker, Passenger Train is expected to perform include:

Inspecting equipment, such as couplings, air hose, journal boxes, and handbrakes, to ensure that they function properly

Assisting passengers to board and leave train

Placing passengers' baggage in rack above seats on train

Answering questions from passengers concerning train rules, station, and timetable information

Turning knobs and pushing switches on control panel to regulate air-conditioning, heating, and lighting on train for comfort of passengers

Setting warning signals, such as flares, flags, lanterns, or torpedoes, in front of and at rear of train during emergency stops to warn oncoming trains

Knowledge of making minor repairs to couplings, air hoses, and journal boxes, using hand tools

Well-versed in train rules, station, and timetable information

Proficient in setting warning signals, such as flares, flags, lanterns, or torpedoes
