The tasks a Hand Embroiderer, Zari is expected to perform include:

Sewing ornamental designs by hand over stamped or stencilled patterns on fabric

Using special embroidery material (zari) such as kora, kangani, sadi, nakshi, beads, tikli, sitare

Stitching 'baithan' (cloth which forms base) to string loops of 'karchob' or 'adda' (embroideryframe)

Cutting zari material into pieces of required size with scissors

Threading needle with yarn and stitching the 'zari' pieces and beads etc. neatly

Removing embroidered fabric from frame

Understanding of different kind of fabrics like cotton, silk, velvet, etc.

Knowledge of special zardozi material like kora, kangani, sadi, nakshi, beads, etc.

In-depth knowledge of various zardozi material and their designs

Knowledge of needle work and thread work

Knowledge of different types of embroidery stitches

Knowledge of how to use and care for equipment

Working hours

Working hours are for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary from company to company Shift system maybe available

Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible

It makes embroidery materials for machine and hand embroidery viz zari thread/kesab, nakshi, salmo, sadi, kangri and badle.At present total production of zari raw material in India is about Rs. 500 crore. Apart from Surat, zari raw materials are produced at Bareilly, Varanasi, Agra, Jaipur and Barmer.
