The tasks a Snuff Maker is expected to perform include:

Making snuff tobacco by grinding and blending various types of tobacco

Placing the tobacco leaves, stalks and chopped tobacco in a bin, adding salt solution and allowing mixture to ferment for specified period of time

Watching the fermentation and turning the mixture occasionally

Roasting the fermented tobacco on heated mud pan and pulverising it to flour-like consistency in a grinding machine or mortar using pestle

Sifting the snuff flour through fine mesh-wire or cloth screens

Knowledge of blending various types of snuff according to formula and adding aromatic oils or essences to obtain desired flavour

Well-versed with the process of fermenting by placing tobacco leaves, stalks and chopped tobacco in a bin, adding salt solution for stipulated time

Knowledge of specialising in a particular snuff making process such as fermenting, grinding, sifting or blending

Eye for detail

Good hand eye co-ordination

Diligent and hard working

Physically fit

Ability to follow instructions

Tobacco factories usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours every day. This may vary from one factory to factory

Growth Estimates and Latest Trends of Tobacco Industry in India

Exports of Indian tobacco and tobacco products have witnessed a rising trend and growth in the past few years. As of December 2014, the exports showed that India has so far exported 18,003 tonnes of tobacco in the period of 2014-15.

Currently, India is the second-largest exporter of FCV tobacco in the world and Indian tobacco is exported to around 100 countries. India exports unmanufactured tobacco primarily to Western Europe, South & South-east Asia, East Europe and Africa. All these factors put together is only going to increase the job opportunities in the Tobacco Industry across towns and cities in India.
