The tasks a Tobacco Curer is expected to perform include:

Driving the green tobacco leaves in heated tobacco barns

Suspending the bunches of green tobacco leaves on strings in barn

Heating the barn by lighting fire inside furnace, to required temperature

Regulating the temperature and draught controls, depending on type of tobacco and weather conditions, until leaves are yellowed

Opening the barn?s door periodically to examine colour and moisture content of leaves

Determining when to increase heat and regulating draught controls to dry leaves and stemming to desired quality and colour

Knowledge of operating the barns

Knowledge of types and grades of tobacco leaves

Well-versed with removing dried and cured tobacco from barn and piling them separately for storing

Knowledge of hanging bunches of green tobacco leaves on strings in barn

Knowledge of operating the barns

Eye for detail

Good hand eye co-ordination

Diligent and hardworking

Physically fit

Attentive

Ability to understand instructions

It needs one to be on their toes

Local travelling maybe a part of this job

Working hours
Tobacco factories usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours every day. This may vary from one factory to factory

For freshers - INR 3,000 to INR 4,000 per month

For candidates with 2-4 years of experience or more - INR 4,000 to INR 5,000 per month

Growth Estimates and Latest Trends of Tobacco Industry in India

Exports of Indian tobacco and tobacco products have witnessed a rising trend and growth in the past few years. As of December 2014, the exports showed that India has so far exported 18,003 tonnes of tobacco in the period of 2014-15. Currently, India is the second-largest exporter of FCV tobacco in the world and Indian tobacco is exported to around 100 countries. India exports unmanufactured tobacco primarily to Western Europe, South & South-east Asia, East Europe and Africa. All these factors put together is only going to increase the job opportunities in the Tobacco Industry across towns and cities in India.
