Harmonium Examiner

The tasks a Finisher (Harmonium) is expected to perform include:

Giving finishing touches to the harmonium by making and fitting stops for controlling the air in harmonium and by cutting and fitting celluloid pieces for decorating the cabinet

Examining the assembled harmonium for any defects

Polishing the cabinet using colour stain and varnish to give the required finish

Fixing the coloured celluloid strips on the reed

Fitting wooden or plastic knobs to the air-holes and other attachments such as handles and decorative fittings

Ability to work with a variety of materials including wood, metal, plastic and fibreglass, depending on the instrument

Well-versed in using traditional hand tools for working with wood or metal

Competent in tuning instruments to make sure they produce high-quality sound

Good hand-eye co-ordination

Dexterity of hands

Knowledge about making, assembling and fitting various accessories to the harmonium

Ability to tune the harmonium

Ability to repair the used harmonium

Attention to detail

Innovative

Sense of artistry

Accuracy in work

It requires one to sit and work

Needs to handle a team of helpers

Local travelling is a part of this job

Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

Working hours

Musical instrument crafters usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from unit to unit
