Certified training for Auto Service Technician Level 4 (programme aligned to ASC/Q 1402 released by Automotive Skills Development Council)

1-2 years if ASDC Auto Service Technician Level 4 certificate holder or Diploma in Automotive Repair 3-5 years for other qualifications

The tasks an Auto Service Technician Level 4 is expected to perform include:

Assisting in diagnosing malfunctions in the vehicles

Repairing and performing maintenance on automobiles

Carrying out routine service and minor repairs

Performing a testdriveand identifying any additional repair or service requirements in a vehicle

Familiarity with the various components of a vehicle

Familiarity with the various tools and machines used for repairs and maintenance

Familiarity with the electronic testing equipment used for diagnosing malfunctions

Basic knowledge of the procedure to check deviations and malfunctions

Knowledge of company safety policies and procedures

Ability to maintain a valid driver?s license

Physically fit

Manual dexterity

Knowledge of a local language

ITI graduate or Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Automobile Engineering

Good customer service skills

Good communication skills

Good hand-eye co-ordination

Self-motivated

Team player

Troubleshooting skills

Technical bend of mind

It is not a desk job

Local travelling is not a part of this job role

Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

Working hours

Working is up to 9 hours every day for 6 days a week

Overtime is a common practice

Shift system is available with most service repair garages

Being self-employed is also an option. In this case, the working hours and days will be flexible
