Familiar with integrated insect, pest and disease management for pulse farming

Familiar with irrigation management

Familiar with harvest and post harvest management

Skilled in basic farm management

Equipped to assimilate market information

Ability to keep up with the latest development in variety of pulses and knowledge of new equipment

Basic arithmetic skills

Extension training or Krishi Vigyan Kendra training

Pulses Cultivation in IndiaIndia is the largest producer, consumer and the importer of pulses in the world. In India, pulses are grown in approximately 24-26 million hectares of area producing 17-19 million tonnes of pulses annually. India accounts for over one third of the total world area and over 20% of the total world production. India primarily produces bengal gram (chickpeas), red gram (tur), lentil (masur), green gram (mung) and black gram (urad). For majority of the vegetarian population in India, pulses are the major source of protein. Pulses and pulse crop residues are also major sources of high quality livestock feed in India.1
