Environment Assistant/Technician

Minimum Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering

Minimum 1 year of on field work experience in environmental sciences

The tasks a Environmental Science Protection Technician, including Health is expected to perform include:

Collecting samples of gases, soil, water, industrial wastewater and asbestos products to conduct tests and find out the pollutant levels and also identify sources of pollution

Recording data, preparing reports, charts and summaries that interpret tests results

Investigating hazardous conditions like spills, outbreak of diseases and food poisoning by collecting samples and analysing the same

Responding to investigations

Providing information, technical and program assistance to government representatives, employers and the general public on issues of public health, environmental protection or workplace safety

Calibrating microscopes and test instruments

Making recommendations to control or eliminate unsafe conditions at workplace or public facilities

Inspecting public sanitary conditions at public facilities

Preparing samples or photomicrographs for testing and analysis

Initiating the procedures for closing down the establishments that violate environmental and/or health regulations or initiating penalty in some cases.

Proficiency in choosing the places to gather the required samples and information

In depth knowledge to conduct required tests and experiments

Proficiency in using technology to produce the work products

In depth knowledge related to the various diseases and harmful effects of pollutants

Ability to analyze, interpret and present the results to the concerned audience

Ability to evaluate the effectiveness or performance of procedures, interventions, and programs.
