Minimum 1 year of experience required

The tasks an Ammonia Compressor Attendant is expected to perform include:

Operating the ammonia compressor and auxiliary unit for making ice by freezing water

Examining thermometers, pressure gauges and other instruments to ascertain the working condition of the plant

Operating switches, thermostats and other controls to maintain desired temperatures

Opening, closing and adjusting hand valves, associated with the compressor and condenser, to control the rate of suction and discharge of ammonia temperature

Ensuring proper covering of the freezing tank of the plant with saw dust and proper circulation of brine solution around the tank

Measuring the specific gravity of brine (saltwater) periodically

Lowering cans containing water into the freezing tank and covering the lid

Removing cans from the freezing tank after the ice is formed

Separating the ice blocks from the cans after a little thawing

Maintaining the prescribed records of meter readings

Cleaning the equipment and performing other tasks to keep the system in good running order

Repairing and overhauling the plant

Adjusting the specific gravity by adding water, salt or calcium chloride to the solution

Skilled in using the ammonia compressor

Skilled in measuring temperature and pressure using the thermometer and pressure gauge

Ability to prepare the brine solution

Knowledge of measuring specific gravity and adjusting it from time to time

Ability to service the compressor and other equipment and troubleshoot them

Physically fit
