The tasks a Loader/Unloader is expected to perform include: Preparing and performing loading and unloading tasks

Obtaining information, inspecting, gathering equipment and making space for unloading and loading

Selecting, unloading, segregating, tallying, verifying and delivering goods

Inspecting, grouping, verifying and loading items Carrying out post-loading and post-unloading activities like housekeeping and reporting to the management

Knowledge of the types goods being handled and their loading methods

Ability to read labels and understand special handling requirements of goods

Understanding work place hazards and safe operating practices

Knowledge of material handling equipment used to load large and heavy items

Expertise in arranging goods to maximise truck space

Understand the coding scheme being followed for labelling of different items

Communication skills

Time management skills

Organisational skills

Analytical thinking

Working is generally 5/6 days a week and a minimum of 8 hours a day

Occupational Hazards

Injury while handling sharp goods and heavy objects, pallet trolleys, etc. may occur while loading/unloading goods

Health Risks

Exposure to harmful materials, chemicals, gases, etc. may cause respiratory and other disorders

For freshers - 5,000 to 8,000 per month

For candidates with upto 2 yearsexperience - 8,000 to 10,000 per month

For candidates with over 2 yearsexperience 10,000 to 18,000 per month

Warehousing Industry in India

The warehousing industry in India is currently valued at 745bn (FY 2013) and has been growing at 15% for the last 3 years.ValueNotesestimates that the industry will grow at a rate of 18% till 2017.

The unorganised sector will continue to dominate accounting for around 90% of the industry by 2015. Of the organised sector, the industrial segment will constitute a higher share of warehousing demand, viz. engineering, pharmaceutical and electronics goods.

There have been several key indicators to the future trend in the Indian logistics sector. The demand for logistics services has been largely driven by the remarkable growth of the Indian economy. Logistics sector is estimated to contribute around 13 per cent of the GDP, which is comparatively higher than other developed countries.

Logistic companies and companies that have warehouses generally have vacancies for Loader/Unloader.

There are logistic third party agencies that employ loaders on contracts

Ports, cargo, shipping, airlines, automotive, etc. are some industries and areas that have vacancies Loader/Unloader

Vacancies are located across the country

The vacancies increase in cities with ports and major airports

Mumbai/Navi Mumbai, Cochin, Chennai, Delhi/NCR, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Baroda are some of the main cities with the requirements
