Railway sector is vital for the economy as:

There are no major or glaring skill gaps that exist in the sector due to the in-house training infrastructure in place

Rapid introduction of modern technology though it creates gaps in technical areas such as signalling and telecom

New players entering the rail container segment market require skills that only exist within the railways, thus developing a potential problem

Railways are facing increase in attrition due to gradual opening of the sector

Overhauling the curriculum and infrastructure combined with rolling out training to even the lowest levels of the workforce is essential

Going forward:

Railways is one of the worlds largest employers

Rail freight has grown at around 7% over the past five years and will continue to increase in the coming years with an increasing need for employable workforce

31% share of total freight movement across all modes of transport are transported through rail yet constraints do exist requiring capacity enhancement plans

Large construction companies, builders and developers e.g.: L&T, HCC, DLF, AFCONS, Gammon India Ltd, etc.

Mid-sized construction companies, real estate companies, developers and builders

About 30,000 small construction companies that are members of Builders Association of India (BAI)
