Agriculture Industry in India

According to a report by IBEF, Agriculture plays a vital role in the Indian economy. Over 70 per cent of the rural households depend on agriculture as their principal means of livelihood. Agriculture, along with fisheries and forestry, accounts for one-third of the nation?s GDP and is its single largest contributor.

When it comes to pearl and chank fisheries, the divers who participated in the fishery had to take out a license for diving and surrender their collection of chanks at a price fixed by the Government. Usually chank fishery were leased out for a term of three or more years. At present the demand for chank has not been that much as there is neither departmental fishing nor leasing and so the chank fishing in the whole state is permitted by issue of licenses. These are used to make the famous Bengali bangles that are worn in West Bengal by every married lady. Considering these figures it is safe to say that the demand for a Diver, Chank is there in the present and has a decent scope in the future as well.
